  • Condition: This piece is in wonderful pre-owned condition with no major signs of damage or excessive wear. The picture is beautifully framed so we did not want to remove from the framing. However, we did inspect from outside the glass using a 10X magnifying loupe with no damage found on the print. Print is in beautiful condition and still nice and vivid. There is only very minor wear to the frame and so the piece would be beautiful to hang as is. In summary, this is an eye-catching piece in a nice, flattering mat and frame coordination that looks much newer than its approximately 60 years.

    This is an AUTHENTIC, SIGNED (both pencil
    signed and re

    sealed
    ) wood block print from KAORU KAWANO. You are probably aware that Mr. Kawano was a modern artist that lived from about 1916 to 1965.  This piece is believed to date to the 1950s.  Mr. Kawano is known for his wood block prints, many of which focus on children.  This print is usually referred to as Girl with Mask (or Girl with Red Mask).  Again, this piece is signed with the red mark in the bottom left hand corner and then also SIGNED IN PENCIL in the general area below the red mark.  (
    Our apologies that the pencil signature was a little hard to capture on the dark background in photos, but hopefully you can see it.)
    This is a nice sized piece that is big enough to be impactful to your collection but small enough to not require a large area to display.  As framed, the entire piece is approximately sized at 15.5" tall x 19.75" long x .75" deep.  Open, viewable area of the print not covered by the mat or frame is sized at 10" tall x 14.75" long.  We did not remove the print from the frame since is so nicely framed but presume the print size to be about 11" x 16".  As framed, the picture weighs 3 pounds.  The back contains a label from the framing shop of Max Hill Shop in the French Quarters in New Orleans.
