This type of fossilized oak wood is only found in a small area of Montgomery County Texas from the Beaumont Geological Formation (Sands). The Beaumont Formation was formed during the Pleistocene Era (Ice Age). An extremely rare type of petrified wood, not even believed to exist until only recently since full round logs were discovered. This fossil wood and geological layer is thousands of years old, not billions and millions.
This specific fossil wood originates out of a single distinctive clay layer only found in Montgomery County TX. This clay looks glacial in origin (just a visual observation at this point). It is my understanding that glaciers did not reach this far south during the Ice Age. I suspect a single massive flood swept down to the Gulf Coast depositing the sediment over a once living ancient oak forrest. The forrest was covered quickly as many pieces are already heavily rotted, buggy, even terrestrial termite trails have been found petrified in the fossil wood.
