    Description

    This is an abstract lithograph,
    created circa 1959 by
Ryonosuke Fukui (Japanese, 1923-1986), a listed artist.
Hand signed in pencil as well as "E P A" for an artist's proof.
It was purchased from New York's famous CARUS Gallery (now closed) sometime in the early 1960s.
Photographs do not do this print justice.  It is exquisite.
    Condition:
The paper is toned where it was in contact with paper tape placed inside the mat, bordering the window (see photo).  The image area is also slightly toned from contact with the backer board, but not to an objectionable degree.  The print has been removed from the mat for archival purposes.  It will be shipped unframed.  I can ship the original mat with the print if the buyer wishes, but I would recommend replacing it.  The CARUS Gallery label, which was affixed to the paper on the back side, will be included with the print.
    Size (of mat window):  9 1/4" X 7 5/8"
    Paper size:   16 3/8" X 13 1/2"
    R. Fukui attended the University of Fine Arts in Tokyo and subsequently exhibited internationally with success. From 1962, he exhibited at the International Biennial of Printmaking in Tokyo and the Ljubljana Bienniale (1963, 1965).
