    Description

It's been years since I've had a nice piece of Bear Creek petrified wood and I was reminded just how much I miss it when I cut this amazing slab!  It's another one of those super gemmy, richly colored petrified conifer slabs from a less seldom encountered location in Central Oregon.  This piece appears more wood like than any other I have from this location, and yet it is still pure agate gemstone!  The wood grain is easily identifiable as a piece of ancient conifer that closely resembles fir (growth structure is clearest on the side of the slab since this is a rip cut specimen).  It's preserved in a particularly high grade gem quality agate that took a fantastic polish.  The best pieces in this deposit polish particularly well!  The herring bone wood grain revealed in the face is preserved in high contrast colors that really work well together.  Cut thick for display, this one would also make a great serving platter or cheese board.  This one shows the wood structure so intricately preserved it deserves to be shown off and admired for the ancient treasure it is!
This is a pretty good sized piece that's been cut with the grain and then polished to show off all the gemmy detail inside. It took a beautiful polish, it really does look like a mirror! It's another one of those beautiful fossil treasures that some happy Sticks-in-Stones customer is going to flip over! Our polishing skills are legendary on eBay (just check out the feedback comments and the "me too" claims by our imitators!) and this one has been treated with the same care and dedication to produce that perfect, liquid finish that we apply to every stone destined for my own personal collection. You won't find sander marks or dull spots in our finish work - just a flawless, mirror like face that others promise while we deliver!

his slab came from an ancient petrified driftwood deposit in Central Oregon.  It produced mostly chunks and some water worn logs usually preserved in black with white and tan bands to reveal the wood grain.  Most of the wood from the Bear Creek site is lower grade and isn't seen as often by collectors, but a few very high grade, highly agatized pieces can be found at this site for those persistent in seeking it.  This entire deposit is an ancient forest that petrified eons ago. The exterior edges of the stone are actually as interesting as the polished face and show a shimmering drusy sparkle in the right light. It's a really nicely preserved piece of petrified wood, with absolutely gorgeous gem quality agate in rich dark colors preserving this ancient fossil. You can easily see the highly detailed, perfectly preserved wood grain with naked eye. It's a great specimen and something that the fossil collector or simple stone lover will really enjoy.
It measures about 9 1/4" x 6 3/4" across the polished face and is sliced about 0.44" thick. It weighs 2.16 lbs.
This is a larger sized specimen, and it is close to perfect - something that will show proudly in any collection
